Discovering the Sardinian Warbler
1. Introduction
Show the video "Il-Bufula Sewda/The Sardinian Warbler" present in the Downloadable Materials and ask guiding questions:
“What colours can you see on this bird?”, “Where do you think it likes to live?”
Explain that Sardinian Warblers are common in gardens, backyards, and countryside habitats, and can be observed throughout the year.
2. Outdoor Observation Activity
Organize an outing to a school garden or outdoor area with plants. Encourage children to look carefully in bushes, hedges, and trees and listen for bird calls and identify songs if possible. Remind children to move slowly and observe quietly.
3. Focused Observation & Recording
If a Sardinian Warbler is seen or heard, guide children to notice:
- Colour patterns (grey head, dark eye stripe, lighter underparts);
- Size and shape;
- Behaviour (hopping, flying between plants, singing);
Children can draw the bird or record notes in observation sheets.
4. Creative Follow-Up
Back indoors or outside, children can colour the "Sardinian Warbler Postcard" in the Downloadable Materials using paint, crayons, or natural materials (leaves, small stones).
