Discovering the Lizard
1. Introduction
Show the video "Il-Gremxula/The Lizard" present in the Downloadable Materials and ask questions to engage the children:
“Where do you think lizards like to live?”, “What do you notice about their bodies?”
Explain that lizards are cold-blooded, love the sun, and hibernate during winter.
2. Outdoor Observation
Go to a sunny garden area, wall, or paved outdoor space and encourage children to look quietly for lizards basking in the sun.
Important! Remind the children not to chase or touch animals, as lizards are shy and delicate.
3. Observation & Recording
If a lizard is spotted, observe safely from a distance:
- Colour and patterns;
- How it moves;
- Where it hides or basks;
Children can draw the lizard, note behaviour, or mark where they saw it.
4. Creative Follow-Up Activity
Back indoors or outside, children can colour the "Lizard Postcard" in the Downloadable Materials using paint, crayons, or natural materials (leaves, small stones).
