Discovering the Ladybird
1. Introduction
Show the video "In Nannakola/The Ladybird" in the Downloadable Materials section of the ladybird and ask simple questions to the children, like:
“Have you ever seen a ladybird?”
“What colour is it?”
“Did you know that different kinds of ladybird exist?”
Explain that ladybirds are insects that help plants by eating aphids. You can also add a simplified version of their life cycle, showing the differences between larvae and adults.
2. Outdoor Exploration
Go outside to the school garden or nearby green area and encourage children to look carefully on leaves, stems, and flowers. If a ladybird is found, observe it quietly without touching.
3. Observation Moment
With your guidance, the children should notice the ladybird:
- Colour (red/orange);
- Black spots;
- Wings and movement;
- Shapes.
Important! Emphasise kindness: “We look with our eyes, not our hands.”
4. Creative Follow-Up
Back indoors or outside, children can colour the "Ladybird Postcard" in the Downloadable Materials using paint, crayons, or natural materials (leaves, small stones).
