Work together to choose a green issue to act on. Show children how to turn negative feelings about environmental problems into positive action through journalism. 

2. The power of photography 

Focus on the photography element from Spread the Word 1. Watch "The Camera in Nature / Il-Kamera fin-Natura" presentation (Downloadable Materials) and discuss the children’s experiences with photography. 

3. Practising photography 

Head outdoors to practise taking photos of nature or environmental issues in the school grounds. Children can use their own cameras or tablets (though tablets have limits for close-ups). 

4. Linking photos to Journalism 

Guide the children with prompts:

What feature or message do you want to highlight?

Which angle or distance will show it best? 

5. Becoming Green Journalists 

Back in class, decide on the issue you want to cover. Options include:

If the issue lies outside school, plan an outing. Research the topic, gather facts, and take photos. Then write and assemble a short article. 

7. Spreading the word 

Publish the finished articles on the school website, magazine, Facebook page, or other platforms to reach as many people as possible.
