Spread the Word 1
1. Why Is the Environment in the News?
Start with a class discussion on why environmental news matters and how sharing information is a powerful way to act for nature.
2. Exploring Green News
Browse a “green” news source together, such as Il-Ħuttafa magazine on the BirdLife Malta website, full of visuals, stories, and activities.
3. What Makes the News?
Analyse a few news items as a class and highlight the four key features: a picture, a headline, researched facts, and an opinion. In groups, children identify these elements in their own news snippet.
4. Sharing the News
Groups present their article to the class, pointing out the four features and mentioning when the news took place.
5. Class Discussion
After each presentation, allow time for questions and comments to set the stage for Spread the Word 2.
